Two eight inch smallies today. Very few fish out in lake. They were found by the thousands k. The trees. These trees are 45-55’ tall and are I. 45’ of water. The fish were all stacked at 11,19,25, 35 and 44’. I thought that the finder was on the blink but it wasn’t. Dropped worms strait down though them. They were not interested. Low pressure had them scared and they we full of lantern fly. F499BFDC-1859-47DD-870B-4F4F2BF5BA20.jpegA1F8EBDD-5EA6-41D3-B3CF-3776549E9385.jpegF499BFDC-1859-47DD-870B-4F4F2BF5BA20.jpeg

At Merrill Creek res they were deep. Saw none in the Gin clear water. When I got there they were at 19-22. They got scarcer and deeper as the day went on. Thermocline is deep. Also the water temp was btwn 77 and 79 on the surface. That’s like tea.

Today it was dead calm except for a short blow at 2:30. Really glad I went. I’m fishing, to be sure, but I’m also leaning the bottom features. Learning where rock piles are and where ledges are. The clarity was good to over 12’. So with it being calm I could see allot without electronics.

I found a pretty good bite on Blue Marsh this morning…well, after I switched to methods I know how to use. ;)

A couple of the winners of the day.

I started with a Chatterbait and Crankbait just to get more time with them as I don’t use them much but they received no praise. I then switched to a Senko to be rewarded with 2 aggressive sunnies that managed to hook onto a 1/0 hook. Impressive! I then switched to a Ned, first cast! bang! a heavy fish! Woohoo….not! A Catfish, Boo!

I kept pressing with the Ned and caught a few smallies and a smaller LM. It was not a great start in my usual haunts but I wanted to look at this one cove with many man made box structures that I swore would produce “one day”. After at least 20 stops in the past, today turned out to finally be that day!

I caught about 10 out of that area, a split on football jigs and Neds, football jigs prompting the larger bites. Fingers crossed this spot continues to produce this fall.

What’s wrong with a catfish.

Great night on the Pack. We won with 5 for 16.31#. Best fishing in a while. Bite was steady all night with a little lull from 1 til 2:30. Fish were shallow, 1 to 4 feet of water, right where I like them. Lots of nice fish. We culled out 11 fish from 2.1 to 2.75#. Caught well over 20 keepers. The
lake came up a foot from all the rain and the fish followed it up. Spinnerbait and chatterbait caught all the fish.
