What did you Catch Today?

It’s awesome of course. Pm us all what you used. Lol.
Lol. EVERY fish today was caught on a ned. I got one bite on a football jig, the net result of that one was that I suck! I thought I was dragging in a good sized stick until it pulled back and I couldn’t set the hook so pop it went.

Another example of my too dumb to notice I wasn’t snagged skills was a ned bite. I threw it in, got distracted by my graph and reeled up slack thinking how the heck could I be snagged, I didn’t even move the line……at that same instance, I called myself a moron telling myself it wasn’t a snag and laid in, turning a beauty but not setting the hook. Ugh! That’s fishing! ;)

No, I have tried one of those and found it too flimsy. That's why I'm kinda looking for a tencara. I have one of those telescoping rods I keep in my big truck and it's okay. Not as sensitive as I like, but it'll work in a pinch. Might be because I've only tried the el cheapo models from Walmart or Dunham's though.

The Eagle Claw telescoping rods are more flexible than I like, but they hold up. They really bend but I don't think I've ever broken one in the decade and a half I have had them. The Southbend RTF doesn't feel as strong but it is stiffer. It feels like I could break it, but I haven't so far. It feels hollow. I know they all are but it feels it.

The Daiwa minis are 4 piece but they are much stiffer than the telescoping rods(resisting stiffer rods jokes ;) ). I really like them but I am tired of segments coming off. Now that i am getting more accustomed to transporting one piece rods I am thinking of super gluing them together.

Old Eagle claw travel rods, spinning or fly were awesome. However I have really enjoyed the one piece rods I've acquired. Tougher to travel with. I do have the rod below. It is an old 60's or 70's Fenwick or philipson I believe ...made for LLBean. In a Cabelas Rod tube (shown). It is in excellent shape but is more of a museum piece. I like this style for panfishing. Reset is instantaneous. But for bass and potentially bigger trout I prefer modern straight rods.

It's okay, at my age I'm just trying to figure out how to have stiffer rods man. Nothing to joke about. ,...........

Daiwa has a plethora of travel rods and I've enjoyed looking at them. It may be in my future to own one but for now I am looking at building this winter.

Check out the Mitchell Advocet 2 5,6 ultra light 2 piece there pretty stiff for a ul sounds like what your looking for.Not saying they don’t break (I broke 2 my fault both times)but I really liked the way it worked. The new versions are all black I have a older version that’s silver and black that’s way too soft but I found it used for 5 bucks so it works

Thats not fishing, Below is fishing, Try putting your rod in your mouth....View attachment 3644
Hah! I tried to take a picture with the bass hanging from the scale for the “official” weight but I can’t walk and chew bubble gum when it comes to fishing so that turned into a non-pic. No hands and a rod in my mouth, that would just result into a visit to the dentist office and probably the phone store for a freshly sunken replacement.

I forgot I have one of those too (to, two? ;) ). It's not terribly but it is 7', which was always a problem, and so flexible I was always scared to death I would break it. Probably good for backpacking as it comes with a good case and you can choose spin or fly.

I will add that to my list. I was planning on buying one of the ones A-5 posted, but then Midway sent me an email that minispins were back in stock. It arrived tonight ;)

My plan is to buy one a week until they either run out or the wife starts breaking them over my head ;)

Weight/space. The tencara packs smaller generally and weights very little. If I found a fly setup that packed pretty small and came in at a pound or less, I'd consider that over the tencara though.
The fishpond setup for holding/packing a rod I’m playing with. I ran my spinning rod with my 5wt on that and it was on the water pack but barely noticed. It would be a lot sweeter on my new Fisheye Orvis pack so I’ve to figure out if I’m unstitching the 4 way attachment patch Fishpond uses or trying something like Molle. I’m wrapping up building my mom an industrial long arm sewing machine retrofitted with a Servo and 110vAC. Might have to test it on my pack but a lock stitch machine would be better and I’m an awful seamstress. Thankfully I’ve some all star sewing experts at a few sites that would love to repay a few favors so might give it to one of them. Trying to figure out how to test areas to mount it and the magnet tip piece. If you’ve a FP pack I’d grab that in a second. It’s maybe the best $30 I’ve spent in a bit. I liked the fashion statement Fisheye pattern or I’d have just gotten the FP waterproof sling pack. I have a two rod backpacker but that joker with it’s reinforced tubes is heavy and unwieldy.

I just saved a FB video of a guy landing a huge king on a ice rod. Thing folded in 2 but held up. I had semi joked with Z about using one of his ice rods for a travel rod. If it was soft enough I’d give it a go. I like extra long, soft rods. I even use a fly rod as a hybrid style just for the softness, sensitivity, and reach. I prefer an 8’6” in tight quarters over a 3-4’ rod honestly. In choked corridors reach and drop or sling shot casts are much more accurate over actual sidearm type casts. I learned that by accident watching a neighbor dominate me 10-1. I copied his style but the close quarters reach thing I realized years later.
