Forward facing sonar

So how good does this feature work? Seems like it’s getting a lot of attention in tournaments. As it is being banned. From what I hear people who are fishing with this are blowing other people away.

Might be something to look into for all you use tech on your boats. ;)

They are taking all of the fun out of fishing. I’d rather keep the money and still catch fish, maybe more, maybe less, don’t care enough to spend the money to find out. I think I’d enjoy dropping a dough ball over the side of the boat and waiting instead of moving all over the place looking for a fish. I hope Hank Parker, or whoever the new “pros” are, enjoy hawking it to those who should be beefing up their retirement accounts (like my kids). Do you know if you have a 1/2 million (so easily obtainable) in a conservative 401K you can draw 1700 a month in supplemental income when your between the ages of 60 and 90. That’s right, 30 years. Think if you had a whole mil or two. Nah, somebody else can have the forward facing sonar so they can win the Thursday night nock tournament. I have bigger fish to fry.

It works very well. If you are Crappie, Whiper or Pan Fishing, you are in for a treat and your success will increase exponentially. I had some fun with Crappie and Whipers for a season or so but my fishing is primarily bass. For Bass fishing, it makes me a more efficient angler as I can scan areas and NOT waste time casting to where they are not.

The big benefit is that you get to see in real time how a fish reacts to your bait and cadence and because of that, you can adjust quickly and trigger them. It is not magical though, you still have to know how to use and understand it and if you are not already really good at using a finder, you'll probably just get frustrated with it.

That’s probably why the other people who are in the tournament complaining about it instead of using it. So they’re just banning it.

Are you referencing a specific tourney or just general discussion? I did see that they banned it in a Muskie tourney recently.

I havent heard of any bans in bass fishing. So many people I know have added this tech in the past year. I dont have one. I have fished with a buddy that does. So many new products are called Game Changers, but this really is. It many not be the ultimate tool for every condition or situation but open , deeper water its great. The post by TS pretty much nailed it. Its not a big player if you are punching, flipping or even just burning the bank. There is a pretty good learning curve with it. If you dont put the time and effort into learning it then its probably not worth the investment.
