What did you Catch Today?

I saw it another guy this year, out catching everybody using sea bass. He told me he got a limit of sea bass the night before, and figured you save money on bait. That worked out.

I visited Blue Marsh for a few hours today. The main reason was just to give the new fishfinder a run. I’m not a rookie to the one I bought, I had the same model in my last boat but I’ve never paired it with a high end transducer like I have now. I have to admit, I am very impressed! You see things on the much higher resolution 10” than the lower resolution 9”. It’s not the size so to speak but the dots per inch and definition of the display.

Anyways, I did mange one nice smallie, the only bite in the 2 or so hours of fishing.

Pics or it didn't happen will have to suffice for this post today as it didn't happen! Today we visited Raritan Bay for what we anticipated as the last visit we would make there until Spring. Launching out of the Atlantic Highlands, we were hoping to round the Ammo Pier and pick up where we left off from our last trip but the better experience told us it was a pipe dream, and it was. Womp Womp Womp.

We followed the reports and headed way up the Bay to the Raritan River and did find a few schools of small Stripers. I only managed one 27" and one 20". The other 3 guys on the boat, nothing. We did hear of a good report after docking, that boat had caught 17 out front of Sandy Hook and they had 3 keepers on board. Hindsight says damn, we should have went out front but the realist in me says we made the right choice to guarantee putting the boat over fish.

I doubt we visit the salt again until spring unless we get one of those freakish days where its 60 degrees and wave conditions are perfect.....doubtful! ;).

Caught a few yesterday but no pics and ran into a Unique character at dark after 30 mins of hunting for an airpod I dropped. 45 mins of discussion inching towards my car all the way. Met him before and harmless but likes to chat even in freezing temps after dark. About froze by the time I got to vehicle. I only had a light coat and jeans on for a quick trip that lasted hours lol.

Couldn’t finish a project cutting outside and this 45 degree rain is my favorite fishing weather. Left the house at 2:30 for the 30 min drive to my recent favorite. Caught one on the 5wt, lost a few more then ran out of light. Only made it to two shallow runs. Might go one last time tomorrow before the cold weather moves in.336F00AB-34F5-44E3-9D78-5E3D66A714C0.jpeg138AA77B-1F3C-445A-9871-64EAC13B436C.jpeg

Almost stepped on them yesterday so knew where to target with limited time. I spent 20 mins looking for them and analyzing approach. Once they spook it’s over. They ended up being in shallower water than I thought. I have a new appreciation for this creek. It’s not MC but has different challenges due to shallow clear runs and slower flows. 00C3A45D-E58D-4314-967E-C25F393DEB8A.jpeg01937B4A-319C-4E48-A220-01D69327C59A.jpeg

Nice, what are you getting them on? I hit Bowmans Fly Stretch on Friday but has little luck, 2 hooked but lost both before netting them. I'm going to my spot on Harvey's Creek tomorrow hoping it's not blown out. I'm sticking with wully buggers & nymphs. Creeks needed more water.
