And the rule is if they're hollow they're edible and if not hollow they're another toxic species?

I’ve to figure them all out. Had neighbors picking 3 varieties in my yard. Another shared one that was pretty awesome. I’ve no clue what I’m looking at though. Only picked shrooms at the market.... well this one time at a concert.... J/K, there’s always “That Guy” on threads about mushrooms...

My wife went yesterday in Cumberland Gap TN. Haven't heard back yet but suspect they missed them.

Any good books for a newbie? My neighbors all pick them so they’ll show me to but a reference is helpful. Kids got a nice metal detector setup from Santa so when we get out I thought maybe we could look for shrooms too. Neighbor gave me hen of the woods or one like that last year. Best mushroom I ever ate.

Wife found these in TN. I’m jealous.

I like the batter and fried up but sometimes they give a heavy feeling in my stomach so I’ve just been frying them up and put some on my steak.

I had them last night for the first time and they were batter fried. They have a mild, pleasing but delicate taste and I doubt I'll ever waste battering them again. Like you I'll just sauté them with a little butter. They'd be good with Omlettes as well.

Should’ve picked the baby’s then just stick them in a bowl of water. I found once they come up that’s pretty much it for them. The water will make them get a little bigger, then when done soaking them I take the water back to the spots and throw it there. The water should have spores in it.

Nice and I like the old CaseXX. 40 years ago I dropped a two bladed Schrade out of the top of a 150' Douglas fir in Eureka at the airport. Never found it. Today I found a slightly rusty bone-handled Camilus Barlow. As a kid (7) starting 55 years ago I carried this knife on the farm until 18.
