Sorry I gotta laugh at his assumption on this. They say the thermocline changes in the winter so he must be talking about the summer. If you know smallmouth. Than you’ll know they do like colder waters. So I do believe they can be deeper in the hotter days. But something I’m sure not a lot know is it can be a migratory fish. It will leave the larger bodies of waters to spawn. Also to seek cooler water. If considered a resident fish than they stay all year round.

I hadn’t any interest in lakes until I built this little boat. I wonder if all deep lakes turn or if some merely mix and chill down. One that I know turns is Upper Woods. It has a dramatic affect for ice fishermen.
