Found some cheap flat taper line and fast sink tip from the Commando Spey line company (OSPT?) seem to be doing better on the medium size creeks but the skinny deep pocket log jam I love isn’t good to fish just yet. That’s where I struggle a bit or really shorten my leader. Will have to Google up a few ways to smooth the transition when I make the line.

Also, pulling the 5 wt out reminded me I hate the reel. I know it’s just a line holder but it’s either free spooling or drag screams as I yank line. So far unable to find a sub~$100 spare spool for the Sage 4560 that’s currently on the 12’ from Randy loaded as a Euro Nymph setup. I’m needing good waders and boots but tempted to schlep mine another year and buy the Galvin Brookie 5 wt. reel. I didn’t know it had a set screw to tension. Felt pretty perfect from the factory with nothing but a smooth hold back feel and no drag. I haven’t worked with the 4560 much at all so maybe on the lowest setting it would be similar. Otherwise, I might get a Kingpin 3.75 Centerpin reel and spool it with fly line. On bigger water that might be a challenge if I don’t remember to hit the clicker on a big fish run.

You need old medalists:
1492 2 3/4”
1494 - 3 1/4”
1495 - 3 1/2”
1496 - ???
1498 - 4”
Each are available in half sizes upward.
If you like palming the spool get the same with 1500 series.
very reliable, drag on some if you want it but I never engage the drag.

Found the flat taper line to try, just some cheap Amazon stuff, picked up some Airflo fast sink to custom cut, some new clasp swivels that are so poor I’m going to return rather than chuck. The first 5 all bind every rotation. I was really hoping these would be good after All-Season canceled my order. Also bought a Johnson Century per Don’s suggestion.1A985AE9-B0D8-41D2-8B86-7741AFBC2C98.jpegC3473C27-33F4-4526-BA63-02E9809109FA.png8573F5D7-6773-4CEB-A536-CF2638F6233E.png

Awesome, I’m eyeing a glass blank or glass rod, I like 2 piece and my neighbor who I’ve copied said I really should have a 9’. Glass isn’t really an option in 9’. I just want a moderate or soft action to try. I have a soft spinning rod and it’s not quite the flex I want so moderate is more what I’m thinking. I’ve also looked at 9’6” 5wt. I might get the same action overlining a 3-4wt. I’ve even watched for old fenwick glass or their first carbon tubes but in an 9’+ length all I find are 8-9wt or bigger.

Mail call, bummer my “second law” book came in pretty mangled. I heard it’s a very beautifully illustrated simplified explanation of thermal dynamics. Found a copy but mailman was pretty harsh.

A few boxes showed, Lazy Larry’s Secret Specials in a few sizes, Raven Specialist, Drennan Crystals to harass the PA trout. Have a Pinland I picked up pretty cheap inbound. Going to float the Lehigh and see how that works on pa trout.

Finally got our shed delivered. We had zero outdoor storage at the new place. Now begins the organizing, shelves and a custom work bench for the 12x28. Luckily we ordered it 7 weeks ago when prices were high but not like now. They didn't upcharge us but said the same shed is now $2600 more. I'd have bailed.

Of course I started with the important stuff lol Those signs? I literally went up on a ladder and took them off the wall from Gander Outdoors when they went under. Finally found a home for them.

Sweet, miss having a shed to trip on stuff in, organization is overrated, there’s a fishing contest remember?!?, I’m a Lean guy so trust my above advice, I’ve built a career designing and organizing entire Orgs.... feel free to use my “Expertise” to flake off of work, house chores, you name it..... your welcome....... anything A-5 says about the condition of my garages is suspect LOL, all those redundant tools are part of my training not my poor organization misplacing.....
