What did you Catch Today?

Insomnia ruined my early AM plans. Convinced myself to go out at noon. Hot water a little after 1. Didn’t get a real chance until I waded away from people. Not super crowded but being a part of the hatcheries it’s tough getting time alone on the creek there.

Super low but cold water from springs. Wasn’t feeling it and lost a decent 3lbs ish 15” who broke my 4lbs leader. Lots of snags with water. Found a good fish in a harder access channel between two popular runs. Guess no one walks back there.

25” and 8 lbs.

I went back this evening to see if the Major time had any validity. Caught 3, missed 2 so night and day difference from this morning but the window was smaller.

And a Smallie showed its presence.

I got all my chores done today too so I’ll probably head out in the morning. We were suppose to salt fish tomorrow but then we realized it was Mother’s Day. Plans changed. ;)

We almost went to Gouldsboro but Shohola is just as close and less weedy. Good luck!
I finally met another man tha focus’s on pickerel. He fishes Gouldsboro or Shahola for them. Sometimes he fishes secondary species like Bass out of Haycock Launch. Yesterday it turned out very windy at lake and it badly affected my mobility. No Bass. Four Gills and Punkinseed, six pickerel.

I headed back out for the “minor” time today and the lake was pretty good again. As a tribute to my Wife and Daughter who are at the Linc for the Taylor Swift concert today, I stopped at 13. ;). That and I wanted to pick up a pizza for the Sixers game that’s starting in just a minute. Please don’t disappoint me Sixers!!!

Isn't it funny? in honor of you and "the big guy" I fished a Jig and craw for a bit yesterday. Still learning I guess. I have never even had so much as a tap on a jig/trailer. Oh it'll come I'm sure but its killing me. Kieteck Shiners work so well as do some jerk baits. Jigs/trailers I must use them at the wrong places. I'll get it but for now I cry...

...Shore line. Gouldsboro is 100% weeds so there is no "weed line" so to speak like at Nock or Blue Marsh. Its max 6' deep for 250 acres. very productive. I've done well with Senko and Kieteck Shiners and worms. I could be wrong but I feel the Jig/trailer is not the right fit for there. Perhaps at Spruce run it will shine as the weedlines stop in several feet of water but the rocky slopes outside of that continue down past 40'. Remember when I used to say that Rubber shiners and Senkos were junk, well no more. But that is where I'm stuck with Jigs. It'll come.

Gouldsboro is basically all weeds all the time except certain margins under the treeline.

My local reservoir is Milfoil, I cast to breaks, points and pockets in it as well as holes within the milfoil itself. If you've ever been to Beltzville, it is similar to that, just smaller of course. I've never been to Gouldsboro but I am sure you can develop a pattern to where they gravitate towards a certain type of weed shape or break.

Yes I know the type of break you describe. With jerk bait, spinners and kieteck I avoid letting them sink too far or theyre in the bottom weeds because even when fishing the "breaks, points and pockets"the bottom is coated with schmucky weeds. If I use a Jig/trailer it is lost on the bottom. Its not plowing rocks and gravel Like I see on YourTube but rather engulfed by the bottom weeds and not visible. Is that the correct way? and do you drag it or bounce it?

What did you use, Jigs or other?

I used a Texas Rig with a Craw exclusively this weekend. I have tried almost every method on that body of water and while I have found some success with several of those methods, dealing with the weeds and the gunk on the bottom requires cleaning after almost every cast. It takes the enjoyment out of it so I just throw the Texas Rig with the tip of the hook skin hooked to the craw. It comes through the weeds nice and clean and I get to fish, not jerk out snags or clean hooks.

As for how to bring it in. I do not drag a T-Rig like I will a football jig, dragging collects gunk so I do small hops and twitches. I try not to be too aggressive with it either and I use alot of slack line twitching rather than taunt line twitching.

I useually use Carolina rig as it allows the bait ( usually minnow or worm) to float free. I should try both. They’re nice to pull through weeds and/or over and through pads. And I thought you were just using football jigs.
