Trout Derby 2021

I went easy, I only put 2 fingers on about half lol. It’s a marathon right? I’m planning to try keeping a log of fish this year. Fairly confident I was way over 2k trout last year but it’d be nice to record conditions. To reinforce Don’s notion I’ve an addiction I decided to spend more money and bought the FishPond thermometer for my pack to get water temps too. Not sure what else is relevant data. Maybe bait/lure used but I change constantly at some spots.

Here’s one from today, long hilarious story involving a few bystanders, their telescopic net, a net head about the size of a little kids pool toy, and two guys dropping it once from said net before getting it ignoring my nice long headed net the whole time. The telescopic part broke so I gave the guy $20 that he tried refusing initially.
24” on size 18 wire hook. After the netting it wasn’t recovering so I got better pics for once. Same general area I released the 23” brown Sat and pretty sure this is the fish my bro bonked with a log across creek thinking it couldn’t be an orange trout during MY LOL. 2A7AC481-A09F-498C-BB53-A6A3D852A1ED.jpeg554F82B1-9BDA-4A3B-99DB-C425A31D843D.jpeg257B92DE-98EA-4221-BDCA-0B4BB27F534C.jpeg28DCB709-09BC-4F32-90AB-29B69C6D2F33.jpeg

Best part was working from the creek and the call ran long so I decided to tie on the tiny hook and drift a single egg. Somehow I made a weightless cast across to it and it sunk all but perfect.

Few more for you. Just a quick lunch trip. Expect much better fish and pics after tonight. Was hoping rain would last a few days but I’ll work with it. I’m leaving fish in water but if I get larger ones I’ll try and lift out slightly for the pic.

No fingers on the Tiger but it was cool. Have some videos of schools circling too. Hope it’s a great year there

I'm just saying, how do you know when you should cast or not cast. Knowing your lines performance at different temps I think you need to take your tech one step further and add an anemometer. Shouldn't cost much. you could fly to NC to get it on sale, lol.

Lastly, and automatic Fish Stringer. You shouldn't have to waste time stopping to put fish onto the stringer. With an auto fish stringer you could just fish seamlessly and perhaps double the catch.

As for me, in the wind lately, I've been doing the Capt'n Ahab!DYqKSFCU8AII7WA.jpg

Hit Tobyhanna today and steady picked 12+ Brookies. I didn't get a pic with each but here are 3 entries. Felt good to land a few on my fav ultra light set up. I took a few swings with the fly rod but no good. I took Friday off as my first official fish and forget work day.

Figured I'd give y'all a headstart on the tourney before I start posting all my pics up lol. First trout of the year and nice day to be outside! Had 5 trout but only got pics of 3.
