Finally got out on the Pack for our fist striper/walleye trip. Reports have been good. Ended up pretty tough. 30 guys fished the tourney. A 12# pound striper won, we had second with a 6-5. Some decent walleyes came in 6-14 and 6-12 placed. Not a lot of balt up. I stung a decent striper, my son had a big one blow up on a spook. Fun night out.

I was on Spruce Run to catch Hybid (smaller type) and did not get a keeper but the one I got is my first ever. The Crappie is my personal record...14" on the money. The crappy swam right into my freezer. I was searching for gills with a small Zoom Craw when I caught these three fish. I like to use antique fishing reels for gills and these fish were fun on this 1950's Wright Mcgill rod and early 60's Johnson Reel. Tasty night...

I have no idea how many we caught but it was a lot. More than I have previously. While I have caught sunfish as big as some of these before, it has never been as many that big in a row. A lot of times we both had one on simultaneously. As Don said, plenty were thrown back to grow larger before he considers them fit for filleting. I would guess he caught about double what I did.

A representative sample of them of various sizes;

I never got this turtle in the boat, but had a lot of fun with him anyway. He wasn't hooked. He would just hold on while I pulled him in then let go at the last minute. Then as he swam away I would drop the worm back in front of him and we would do it again. I think I caught him 4 times before he got a piece of the worm off and stopped playing.

It's a good thing I didn't keep any. By the time I got home, got the car unloaded and things put away, and stuff prepped for work today I didn't get to bed until 10. Up at 4 this morning and I need a nap.

It turned out to be a memorable time. We each had 5 rods and gear for whatever was hitting. I saw some big bass while standing in the boat. A medium size Pickerel showed us his teeth and walked off with my bait.
I really enjoyed using my old Wright Mcgill 50's rod and the early sixties Johnson Century reel. Both were restored over two years ago and are perfect for Gills with 4lb line.

Seems like a good day of fishing For everybody. We hit the river between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM today and put 17 stripers in the boat with another 1/2 dozen getting off. We didn’t catch anything big so the run is winding down. We had to put the work in today. I figure it was one fish every 50 casts. Two were under 20” and the rest were between 22” and 29”. They are still finding shad to eat. I took another picture, it’s a healthy 29”. Not a big one just the biggest today. I can’t believe peer picture pressure is getting to me.
