What did you Catch Today?

Mixed up fishy's. I know even walleyes enter creeks. I just don't fish creeks anymore. I live 500 yards from the Delaware and watch people catch nothing all summer. I have heard that big holdover trout leave the larger creeks where they summered in the cooler water and overwinter in the Delaware.

Finally caught some legal Hybid Striper. First ever. Man they fight for their size. Sort of like Smallies but not quite as fast. The two I got did not jump and I’m glad. Is it typical of them not to Jump?

They don’t seem to jump too much for me. They just act like missiles.

How bout some photos proving you caught nothing? See, just a fishstory.
I was hoping to hear of you getting some walleye!

Caught 8 of these guys today.

Notice the net. My first one, at least a thousand pounds, got off when I tried to lift it over the boat. ;). Smallies do not take a football jig the same as a largemouth so sometimes a hook is just a hook and not a set through. Which is one of the reasons I bought the net the other week but of course I didn’t get it out until after screwing up. Lol. I did land a few on a Keitech swim jig, those bites were really fun as they just smash them and I lost 5 on a dropshot.

Hindsight in mind, I am using dropshot hooks and they are shaped different and I just can’t get use to them. Back to Octopus hooks for me next trip.

Check out this structure I was fishing.

I wish Blue Marsh had structure like this in more places.

I can’t say if this made a difference one way or the other but suffice to say, I’ll never throw a bait again without it as I’ve never had that many bites as today….counting all of the misses on all of the lures of course.

Hooked another striper yesterday. I was trying for Crappies and had #8 baitholder hook on it with 1/4 of a crawler. I quickly had to get the anchor up and my other lines as well, while the drag was sizzling out. He pulled me all over and would surely have tangle me all up. When I finally got him near the boat”bink” and he was gone. That little hook must have come loose. I got the hook and worm back. Oh well, that’s fishing!

The lake is about 20’ low. Tell me if I’m wrong but this was the best opportunity to decide where to use football jigs in steep rocky drop-offs next summer.

Steep is a tricky term. A shear cliff or could a human walk down them? Gradual rocky slopes on the other hand are great to note for future outings when the lake is up.
