Trout Derby 2021

youngest baseball parade for opening day and a bit of a bug at the house so only got out a couple hours before dark to explore a new section of a creek I found this year. Managed 10 trout and lost about 40 minutes dinking with the 27” Palomino I relocated. All on the 5wt St Croix. It is usually my exclusive but I used the St Croix spinning rod about half the time last year.73E12B99-72A8-4F5E-A798-3D152E94FA9E.jpegACF93944-0C02-4DC3-BD2A-A2D4D18323C9.jpeg7E1ECC20-6FE3-4E2E-AEE1-F0C0B06213CA.jpeg11FEAD3C-6DD3-4500-9DBD-3CDD9D50E678.jpegE985B60E-94DF-4630-B70B-C7CCBF0C96EE.jpeg5F59636D-087E-4BD0-AB67-D8B1BB2B39CF.jpeg336A96F6-DEDA-4478-AD5C-1F917EAC27F3.jpeg78069815-9508-40A3-9628-B1EA3F5DD680.jpeg540A52D4-B371-4E2A-BA84-6FAE9181BDDE.jpeg9B48E08E-C8F9-45D5-9810-24A503B4D0C2.jpeg

A few didn’t attach, think I got them all and didn’t double post any. A bunch of 12-13” rainbow in that creek. I had a pic of about 60 all in a small pool before I flew to Nashville. Guess the rain helped them
Spread out. I’ve got to find time to explore a few more miles on this one. Found fish between the big accessible holes. Pulled a few out of a big pool too but not nearly as many as the riffles and pockets not many wade to. When going between pools most skip the skinny or shallow stuff. I usually do my best there.

Nope counted and missed one, these rainbows all look about the same. I’m hoping to explore more of this creek but if not I’ll probably hit the lake anyway. That should be a big number trip.

And I’ve ADHD so there’s that, Lol, commonly misunderstood as lack of focus. If it’s channeled focus is one thing not lacking.

That is correct. And he has ran with it.
his first cousin is in the same boat. Started working at a shop where research is done on Navy sonar buoys. I’lldidnt finish college but he deals with navy.
I think college is over-rated for many.

Too much going on last night but went out a few hours tonight. 30 trout with one nice one for my daughter. Jumbo browns showed at dark and my wife was scolding me about school night, no dinner yet, and 30 min drive home. Leaving that one monster that dwarfed the 23-27” browns with it was tough. Only saw him once last year too when my brother lost him at the dock. No telling what he’ll weigh. Lake has no predators really and full of baby perch, sunnies, and bass.

Plus more LOL, switched from pb, to spinners, then pink marabou steelhead jig tipped, single eggs, finally just put a trout magnet float under PB. PB alone was slaughtering them but after 3 hard recoveries that didn’t make it I didn’t want to keep more. I try and toss them all back there but as hard as they hit and fight it’s inevitable. Minnows catch endless perch these days unfortunately. Weeds starting too so I run the jig like a lure sort of.

A-5, maybe best to pull me from the drawing, I think I’m 5 short trips in the first two weeks and already scaring the 75 Mark, I don’t think I’ll get quite as much time out as last year but 100-150 days is possible,

I think Melvin is waiting for the the 11th hour nah 11:45th hour drop in to take it all before we can respond lol. Come on Melvin, Fly Guys have been showing me what for my entire life, point of fact, upstate eastern NY on the VT border a few fly guys showed me that a childhood of not catching was my own fault netting wild 18” after another on the same creeks I grew up on.

So let’s see them beautiful native monsters. LOL. I finally broke 20” on a river spawn brown after a lifetime of looking.

This fly guy messed his back up last Thursday and wasn’t able to get out. I’ve been messing with the kids atv getting ready for his safety class Saturday. After that, I’m dedicating a few days for fishing.
